Indigenous fighter jet KAAN will be “invisible”!
Turkey’s indigenous fighter jet KAAN met with the sky. TÜBİTAK has started new studies for KAAN, which has successfully completed its first flight. This time, TÜBİTAK has focused on domestic and national projects to produce software that will make the aircraft invisible to radar, as well as vital life support and explosion prevention systems.
New projects are being put into practice for the systems that will make Turkey’s 5th generation fighter jet KAAN, which met with the “blue homeland” last week by cutting the wheel off the runway, “unique”. In its first flight on February 21, KAAN stayed in the air for 13 minutes, reaching an altitude of 8,000 feet and reaching a speed of 230 knots.
The aircraft achieves superior air dominance, increased air-to-air combat range with new weapons, precise and precise strikes from internal weapon mounts at high, supersonic speed, with its “High Performance and Integrated Avionics System” that includes artificial intelligence and heterogeneous computing support.
New software and hardware will be added to the aircraft, which is also equipped with systems developed by TÜBİTAK.
TÜBİTAK-developed technologies, including the central management computer, avionic interface units, deterministic network, multi-core real-time operating system and middleware, were used in the first flight of KAAN.
KAAN’S BRAIN IS FROM TÜBİTAK BİLGEM
The computer system, described as the brain of KAAN, was produced by TÜBİTAK Informatics and Information Security Advanced Technologies Research Center. The system was delivered to Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in 2022, ahead of schedule. The avionics computer system has deterministic and high-speed communication infrastructures with safety-critical and high-performance processor modules.
