The steep hike in the IMEI registration fee, which was recently increased from 6,091 TL to 20,000 TL, caused a series of problems.

According to Complaintvar data, this outage resulted in a significant increase in complaints, with a staggering 93-fold increase in complaints within a week.

In an announcement published in the Official Gazette in the past days, it was announced that the IMEI registration fee for the phones brought to the country by travelers would be increased to 20 thousand TL.

Registration Problems at Many Points from Border to e-Government

This increase has resulted in congestion at border checkpoints and insolvency for phone owners who want to register their devices. Worse still, some users who paid the fee encountered the error message “Cannot find IMEIregistration information”. This widespread issue is also reflected in the complaint data collected by Complaintvar.

Citizens who flocked to e-Government with the announcement of a raise had difficulty completing the IMEIregistration process on the day of the announcement.

According to the platform’s statement, complaints on this issue increased 93 times compared to the previous week, while autonomous public institutions increased by 51 percent, GSM operators by 23 percent, and mobile phone brands by 23 percent.
