Hook and line boats will be able to navigate the Evros River
In Edirne, efforts are underway to use the rivers more effectively. It will be possible to navigate the Evros River with hook and eye type boats.
With the instruction of Governor Yunus Sezer, efforts were initiated to use the Meriç River, which was used for cargo transportation as well as excursions during the Ottoman period, for recreational purposes. In this context, two boats named “Meriç” and “Mecidiye” were built in Edirne red color, which are of the hook-and-head type and have more comfortable mobility in the river due to their thin and raised heads.
The boat named “Meriç”, which has an electric motor, is 8 meters long and has a capacity of 14 people, was lowered into the water with the help of a crane. Governor Sezer participated in the test tour of the boat in the river.
During the tour, Sezer received information from Deputy Governor and Secretary General of Special Provincial Administration Eyyüp Batuhan Ciğerci and Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Kemal Soytürk.
The “Meriç” and “Mecidiye” boats are planned to be put into the service of citizens for recreational purposes in the summer months.
