High school students in Adana develop rocket

Turkey’s first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı visited various schools to meet with students and examined the rocket designed by Adana Çukurova Science and Art Centre. Gezeravcı determined the name of the rocket.

Turkey’s first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı visited Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Secondary School, Incirlik Anatolian High School and Istiklal Primary School due to the start of the academic year. Gezeravcı also met with students from Adana Çukurova Science and Art Centre and examined the rocket they designed.

ALPER GEZERAVCI NAMED THE ROCKET ‘ZIPKIN’

Gezeravcı determined the name of the rocket that will participate in the ‘high altitude’ competitions to be held in Aksaray Hisar Shooting Range on 9-16 September within the scope of TEKNOFEST Aviation, Space and Technology Festival. The Turkish astronaut named the rocket ‘Zıpkın’, the name of the squadron he first served in the Air Force Command.

Gezeravcı, who signed the rocket and honoured it with the inscription ‘Safe flights to Zıpkın’, took a souvenir photo with the students he chatted with. He also answered students’ questions about the content of Turkey’s space mission.

In his statement, Alper Gezeravcı emphasised that they are intensively preparing for TEKNOFEST Adana, which will be held on 2-6 October, and said, ‘I am one of the citizens of the Republic of Turkey, who is happy with the success in the field of space, which reflects the strong will of our state.’

Gezeravcı also drew attention to the happiness of being elected to the post and the honour and pride of sharing the joy of reaching today as a student trained by the state.
