German Defense Minister Pistorius Takes Office
Pistorius received his appointment to his new post from President Steinmeier. “Russia has disrupted Europe’s security order,” said Steinmeier.
Christine Lambrecht, who did not fall on the agenda of the German media, recently decided to resign.
It was decided to replace Lambrecht with Boris Pistorius as the new Defense Minister.
Received Certificate of Appointment
Pistorius went to Bellevue Palace this morning with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his predecessor, Lambrecht, and received the appointment letter from President Steinmeier.
Steinmeier stated that Russia’s brutal attack on Ukraine caused millions of suffering and destroyed the security order of Europe.
Steinmeier: We Are a Strong Country in the Middle of Europe
Emphasizing that it is very important to make the German army deterrent and ready for defense in an environment of threats and geopolitical changes, Steinmeier said:
“As a strong country in the middle of Europe, we have a responsibility not only to ourselves but also to others. We are not alone, we are in alliance with partners. These partners must and will trust us.”
“Calm Head, Strong Management”
Stating that Pistorius took over the ministry in case of a threat and danger that Germany has not known for a long time, Steinmeier concluded his speech with the following words:
“For all future challenges and necessary reforms, you now need a calm mind, strong administration, clear language and political experience.”
Thanks to Lambrecht
Steinmeier noted that Pistorius had all of this, which he demonstrated during his 10 years as Minister of the Interior for the State of Lower Saxony and other difficult political posts.
President Steinmeier congratulated Boris Pistorius on his new position and thanked Christine Lambrecht, who left her post, for her services.
New Minister to Meet with His US Colleague
Leaving Bellevue Palace later, Pistorius came to the Bundestag and was sworn in.
Minister Pistorius will also be greeted with military honors at the Ministry of Defense on the first day of his assignment, and then he will meet with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
