According to the Journal, the organizations in question have purchased at least 3,500 acres near Austin and are working to establish a town called Snailbrook, a reference to the mascot of Musk’s Boring Company. Over the years, tech companies have offered numerous opportunities on campus to recruit employees and sometimes encourage them to work longer hours. Musk can take this approach even further by establishing a company city of his own.
According to the report, Musk wants employees from Boring Co., Tesla and SpaceX, which have large manufacturing facilities near Austin, to “live in new homes with below-market rents.” Snailbrook reportedly includes plans to build more than 100 homes, as well as features such as a pool and outdoor sports area.
