Confession from Greek Ambassador: “We Begged Turkey, We Are Like Beggars”

While the tension between Turkey and Greece continued unabated, Greek Ambassador to Finland Georgios Aifants, speaking to a channel yesterday, made statements such as confession. Stating that in 2019, then-Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Katrougalos officially “begged” to meet with Minister Çavuşoğlu in Helsinki, Aifants said, “We are becoming beggars against Turkey.”
While the tension between Turkey and Greece continued unabated, the honorary ambassador of Greece to Finland, Georgios Aifants, who spoke on Crete TV yesterday, made remarkable statements.

Recalling his memories of his duties as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2019, Aifantis talked about an event that took place at the European Council Summit when he was in Helsinki with the then Foreign Minister Giorgos Katrougalos.
Noting that they wanted to meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Katrougalos formally begged him for a meeting with Çavuşoğlu.

Stating that Minister Çavuşoğlu answered “No” to Katrougalos, who wanted to sit down and talk, Aifants said that as a result of long efforts, Çavuşoğlu set the meeting clock to 10 in the evening.
Aifants stated that they were waiting to meet with Minister Çavuşoğlu at 10 pm.

Stating that the incident was far from diplomacy, Aifants continued as follows:
Minister Katrougalos had come to beg Minister Çavuşoğlu not to harm the elections in September 2019,” and said, “We are begging against Turkey.”
