The details of China-based automotive giant BYD’s massive $1 billion investment in Turkey continue to become clearer. BYD Turkey General Manager İsmail Ergun recently made exciting statements about the company’s plans for Turkey.

BYD will not be subject to additional customs duty until it switches to domestic production

As it is known, as of July 8, an additional 40 percent customs duty was imposed on cars imported from China in all fuel types in order to protect domestic producers. According to Habertürk, BYD will not be subject to this tax thanks to the huge 1 billion dollar investment agreement it signed with Turkey.

With the introduction of the additional tax, the prices of many models imported from China will increase. However, BYD will be able to sell outside of this application until it builds its factory and switches to domestic production.

Saying that November-December will be decisive in this regard, BYD Turkey General Manager İsmail Ergun made the following statements on the subject;

After the investment incentive certificate is published in the official gazette, we will start offering our vehicles in a more accessible way in November-December. This will enable BYD to complete the year 2024 around 10 thousand units. The following year, we will have the potential to sell at least 3 times that number. Our model numbers will also increase rapidly. At the same time, depending on production plans, we plan to introduce an electric model at the end of the year in addition to the ATTO 3 and SEAL U DM-i model. With aggressive growth, our brand will be among the top 3 most preferred brands in the passenger car market in Turkey within 3 years.
