The problems of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft docked to the International Space Station are endless. Now the crew reported strange noises coming from the spacecraft’s speakers.
Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, developed in partnership with NASA, has been docked to the International Space Station (ISS) with astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams. The problems in this mission, which lasted much longer than planned, are endless. NASA astronaut Wilmore reported a while ago that strange noises were coming from the speakers on the Starliner spacecraft.
Strange noises in space
According to reports, the Starliner crew noticed strange noises coming from the spacecraft’s speakers last Saturday. Wilmore, who reported the problem to the Ground Control Centre at Johnson Space Centre, said, ‘There’s a strange sound coming from the speaker… I don’t know what’s causing it.’
The Starliner crew played the sound for mission control. Mission control said it sounded like some kind of pulse and was almost like sonar. It is not yet clear what caused this sound. However, such strange sounds can sometimes be heard in spacecraft. These sounds usually have a simple explanation.
The Starliner spacecraft carried NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore to the ISS on 5 June. The crew was expected to stay here for eight days, but they have been in space for three months due to problems. Starliner experienced several helium leaks while reaching orbit and five of its 28 thrusters failed. NASA and Boeing did not return the crew until they resolved or understood these problems. Ultimately, Starliner will return to Earth on 7 September, but will do so without its crew. The two astronauts will return early next year on the SpaceX Dragon Crew-9 mission.
