US President Joe Biden has issued a written message on the occasion of the start of Ramadan. “Together with Jill, we send our best wishes to the Muslim communities in America and around the world as we enter the holy month of Ramadan, a time of fasting, renewal, relief, worship and growth,” Biden said. Referring to the earthquakes that caused heavy loss of life in Turkey in his message, Biden said, “We will continue to stand by the people of Turkey who lost many relatives in devastating earthquakes.”

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in a written message released on the occasion of the start of Ramadan, stated that Ramadan is a holy month of worship for Muslims, a time of celebration with family, and compassionately remembering the less fortunate.

Blinken noted that Ramadan is also a time to take action on the responsibility to support those in need, including those affected by poverty, conflict and natural disaster.

“In this spirit, our embassies and consulates abroad will host iftars and various events to share this month’s beautiful traditions and demonstrate our commitment to promoting harmony and diversity in our communities,” he said. “We remain committed to promoting religious freedom for all, both within the United States and around the world,” Blinken said.
