Laylat Al-Baraat Will Be Celebrated Tomorrow

Beraat Kandili falls on the 15th night of Sha’ban, the second of the three months that began on January 12.

Beraat, which is the abbreviated expression of the word “Beraet”, means cleansing from sins, coming clean, receiving divine forgiveness and mercy according to Islamic belief.

Also, on the 15th day of Sha’ban in the second year of the Hijrah, while the Prophet Muhammad was performing the second rak’ah of the noon prayer in the mosque in the Beni Salama house where he went to visit, the verse came down about the change of the qiblah from Al-Aqsa Mosque to Al-Haram Mosque.

This historical event, which symbolizes unity as the Prophet Muhammad and the congregation turned towards the Ka’bah at this time, is one of the main reasons that make the night of Berat precious.

The Prophet Muhammad is reported to have said the following about the Night of Berat:

“Spend the 15th night of the month of Sha’ban in worship and fast during the day. For on this night, Allah Almighty manifests His mercy to the heavens of the world and says, ‘Whoever repents, I will accept his repentance. He who asks for sustenance, I will provide sustenance. He who asks for healing, I will heal him. He who has any other request, I will give him what he wants.”
