Babies wrapped in foil in besieged Al-Shifa Hospital

A human tragedy is taking place in Shifa Hospital, which is under siege by Israel, which has massacred more than 11 thousand Palestinians in Gaza. As a result of the loss of function of Shifa Hospital, the largest hospital in the region, babies are tried to be kept alive in primitive ways. Foil is used for heat in the neonatal unit.

Responding to the Aqsa Flood operation launched by Hamas on the morning of October 7, Israel has been raining bomb after bomb on Gaza for 39 days. Killing more than 11 thousand Palestinians, the Israeli army has besieged Shifa, the largest hospital in the region, from all four sides. Many babies in the hospital, whose electricity was cut off and completely lost its function, started to be kept alive by primitive means.

BASIC NEEDS CANNOT BE MET IN GAZA

Israel’s genocidal attacks on Gaza continue on its 39th day. While life in the region has come to a standstill, basic needs cannot be met. So much so that even the hospital where people injured as a result of the bombardment can be treated is under attack. While the health system in the region has been destroyed, the wounded are being treated in gardens.

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION: THE SITUATION IN SHIFA HOSPITAL IS VERY GRAVE

The Director-General of the World Health Organization made statements about the Shifa Hospital, the largest in the region. Describing the situation as “horrific and dangerous”, the Director said, “The world cannot remain silent as hospitals, which should be safe havens, turn into scenes of death, destruction and despair.” On the other hand, it is also known that 6 babies died in the hospital due to lack of electricity.

BABIES ARE WRAPPED IN FOIL TO PREVENT THEM FROM DYING

As the hospital is failing, the lives of babies in the neonatal unit are in danger. Doctors, fighting against the odds, are wrapping babies in foil to prevent them from dying. They are also trying to keep them warm by leaving hot water next to the babies wrapped in foil. On the other hand, it was stated that babies were taken out of incubators due to lack of oxygen.

“THERE ARE 33 PREMATURE BABIES WHOSE LIVES ARE IN DANGER”

Pointing out that these deaths occurred as a result of Israel’s refusal to allow fuel entry, Abu Silmiyye said that there are 33 more premature babies in the hospital whose lives are in danger. Regarding the allegations that 300 liters of fuel provided to the hospital was rejected, Abu Silmiyye said, “It is a lie and slander.” He said that the fuel offered by Israel “can only run the hospital’s generators for 15 minutes.”
