Buharkent is one of the smallest districts of Aydın with 12.000 population. The district is on the Izmir-Denizli highway, 88 km east of Efeler. It is famous for its hot water and geothermal power plant. The economy of the district is based on agriculture. Major agricultural products are cotton, figs, grapes, wheat and olives. There are workshops in the district that process agricultural products. Located east of the town center in the geothermal field located near the village of Kızıldere was established Turkey’s first geothermal power plant. Electricity and dry ice have been produced since 1984.
