Tesla Model 2, whose technical specifications were revealed, was displayed at Giga Berlin

Tesla has started work on a new, cheaper model that could compete with models like the MG 4 and the upcoming Volkswagen ID.2. The company shared some technical details about the Tesla Model 2 at an investor event in March 2023.

Elon Musk stated that the new model will be much cheaper than Model 3 and Model Y. Musk stated that Tesla Model 2 will be offered to users at a more affordable price thanks to new production techniques.

As of 2022, it was announced that the Model 2 project was put on hold. Elon Musk said they have a lot of work to do and are not actively working on a $25,000 car.

There are rumors that the Model 2 may already be under development at the Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory in China. During Tesla’s Q3 2022 earnings call, Musk briefly mentioned a “smaller” platform that could be produced at a much lower cost. This platform is expected to be used in affordable cars like the Model 2, which is smaller than other models.

FSD is seen as an important sales strategy for Tesla, which is why the Model 2 will feature autonomous driving. According to leaked information, Tesla will also use the Model 2 as a robot taxi.

According to reports in China, Tesla will use BYD’s Blade batteries in the Model 2, a new technology designed to address concerns about battery fires. Regardless of the battery type, the Model 2’s minimum range is estimated to be at least 400 km.
