7 People Executed In Iran
Seven people convicted of rape and drug-related crimes were executed in Iran.
According to the Norway-based Human Rights Organization of Iran, the sentences of 4 prisoners sentenced to death for rape were executed in Rajai Shahr Prison in the city of Kerec.
The execution of the sentences of 3 people sentenced to death for drug-related crimes was also carried out in Gezel Hisar Prison in Kerec.
Volker Turk, the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights, said yesterday that at least 209 people have been executed in Iran since the beginning of the year, a figure he described as “alarming”. Turk called on Iranian authorities to abolish the death penalty or halt all executions.
