Turkey To Produce Electric Vehicle Batteries
The Foundation Of Turkey's First Battery Factory Will Be Laid Today In Bursa's Gemlik District With A Ceremony Expected To Be Attended By President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
According to the written statement made by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, a construction start ceremony will be held at 14:00 with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the Siro Silk Road Clean Energy Storage Technologies Battery Development and Production Campus, which was established to develop energy storage solutions in partnership with Turkey’s global mobility brand Togg and Chinese energy company Farasis.
Critical Step For Turkey
According to the statement, Turkey is taking important steps to capture the change and transformation in the automotive industry globally.
After Togg’s T10X model has rolled off the serial production line and appeared on the streets, a critical step is being taken in the field of batteries, one of the most important components of electric vehicles.
Mustafa Varank, Minister of Industry and Technology, said that investments in Bursa are continuing after the start of mass production at Togg’s production base in Gemlik, and that the foundations of Turkey’s first battery factory will be laid here.
Turkish Century Badge
Stating that the battery factory, which will bring important capabilities to Turkey, will also provide a significant return to Turkey and Bursa in terms of employment, Varank said
“Mr. President will visit Bursa and Gemlik on Monday. We will lay the foundation of another very important investment of Turkey. We will lay the foundation of another sign of the ‘Turkish Century’. We will lay the foundations of Turkey’s first battery factory. This technology will bring important capabilities to Turkey. It will make significant contributions to our country’s economy. In terms of employment, it will bring significant benefits to Bursa and Turkey.”
Battery Development And Production Campus
The Siro Battery Development and Production Campus, which will be established on an area of 607 thousand square meters next to Togg’s production base in Gemlik, is planned to be completed by the end of 2024. At the campus, where cell, module and package production will be carried out, the latest generation battery cells with high energy density will be produced.
With the Siro Battery Development and Production Campus, Turkey will become an important integrated energy storage center in Europe and the Middle East. Thus, Turkey will have the competence to develop and produce cells, which is available in a small number of countries.
By 2031, Siro will reach an annual production capacity of 20 GWh and will own the intellectual property of all products and solutions it develops.
In addition to Turkey, Siro will provide stationary energy storage services for industrial applications, marine vessels and renewable energy to neighboring countries.
