In the United Nations World 2023 Drug Report, attention was drawn to a danger in Turkey regarding electronic cigarettes. The report stated that some electronic cigarettes contain synthetic marijuana.
“Synthetic cannabinoids, in other words synthetic marijuana, are also caught in electronic cigarettes in Turkey.”
This striking information was published in the United Nations World 2023 Drug Report. Sevil Atasoy, a member of the United Nations Drug Control Board, voiced this danger about electronic cigarettes in Turkey.
Explaining the harms of electronic cigarettes, Atasoy warned, “Electronic cigarette smokers should not think that they are smoking something harmless, in fact, electronic cigarettes are already harmful even if no substance is added to it, and if there is any synthetic cannabinoid in it, this is a much greater danger.”
Electronic cigarettes, which are preferred because they are more innocent instead of tobacco products, cause many negative health effects such as respiratory diseases, heart and circulatory system diseases due to the chemicals they contain. In young people, it negatively affects brain development.
34 countries have banned the sale of electronic cigarettes and the World Health Organization is calling for urgent action.
