Suspected Cholera On Giant Cruise Ship
Stomach discomfort in some passengers on the cruise ship Norwegian Dawn alarmed the authorities. The ship was quarantined off the coast of Mauritius due to suspicion of cholera. After the examinations, no traces of cholera were found and the ship was allowed to dock at the port.
The authorities were alarmed when 15 passengers on the giant passenger ship Norwegian Dawn, which was sailing to South Africa, suffered from stomach ailments.
The ship was quarantined off the coast of Mauritius island. Authorities in the island country prevented the ship from docking over the weekend due to “health risks”.
The statement read as follows:
“As additional tests must be carried out by local authorities before entry is granted, the Mauritian government has postponed the disembarkation of the current cruise and the embarkation of the next cruise by two days to February 27, 2024.
The Norwegian Dawn, with 2,184 passengers and 1026 crew, was on a 12-day itinerary from Cape Town to Port Louis starting on February 13.
Mauritian Health Ministry officials told reporters that samples were analyzed at a local laboratory and found to be cholera-free.
Finding no evidence of cholera on board, the Norwegian cruise ship was allowed to dock in the capital Port Louis. Those who have disembarked will be checked by health officials and provided with medical assistance if necessary.
