Shortening Working Hours in Turkey

Working life in Turkey is changing. Accordingly, the Turkish Labor Law will be amended to shorten working hours.

Working life in Turkey is changing. According to a report in Türkiye Newspaper, the Turkish Labor Law, which will cause radical changes in working life, is on the way. Important changes will be made on many issues such as wages, working hours, leaves and flexible working. So what awaits the employees? Here are the details!

Turkish Labor Law Will Change, Working Hours Will Shorten!

The Turkish Labor Law, which concerns more than 30 million employees living in the Republic of Turkey, is on the way. According to allegations, the government is preparing to take important steps on issues such as shortening working hours, expanding flexible working models and strengthening employee rights.

International Labor Organization (ILO) standards will be taken into consideration in the amendments. Although the regulation is on more than one subject, the most striking item is the working hours. It is planned to reduce the working hours from 45-48 hours per week to 40 hours.

The aim of this regulation is to improve the quality of life of employees. Of course, despite working less, there will be no change in the income of employees. Those who continue to work the old hours will be entitled to additional overtime pay for periods over 40 hours.

Nevertheless, if this regulation is implemented, it will be up to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security to ensure and supervise its implementation. In addition, standards will be established on issues such as remote working. Thus, not every company will be able to implement its own regulations.

While it is not known for now when the regulation will be made, it is worth reminding that similar steps were taken in the past but were abandoned because they did not yield the desired results.
