Social media giants Meta and Snap are accelerating their investments in augmented reality (AR) technology. What Will Meta and Snap’s New Glasses Provide?
Meta will introduce its first AR glasses codenamed ‘Orion’ at the Connect event on 25 September. According to the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Meta will soon unveil a holographic headset. Although this headset will not be commercially available, it will be exhibited as a prototype.
In addition, a more affordable VR headset called Quest 3S with a lower hardware level of Meta Quest 3 will also be released. Developed by the company under the code name ‘Ventura’, this new model will have a lighter and more compact design compared to the Quest 3. Due to the lack of AR features, the device will not project a live image of the environment.
In addition to these features, the device will have a screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1832 pixels instead of 2208 x 2064 pixels and 256 GB internal storage instead of 512 GB.
Snap will introduce a new model of Spectacles glasses on 17 September. The company aims to have this model on sale by the end of the year. Snap’s AR glasses will be integrated with Snapchat, the social media platform that is especially popular among young users.
