New Electric Car from Mercedes to Rival Tesla!
New Electric Car from Mercedes to Rival Tesla!
Mercedes unveiled its brand new electric car with the aim of becoming Tesla’s biggest rival in the industry. Here are the first known details about the car!
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Concept CLA Class electric car, featuring an 800-volt architecture with very long range and fast charging. The four-door sedan is the first model in the company’s Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) electric car lineup, which will include a shooting brake and a pair of SUVs.
Unveiled as a concept at the IAA Mobility motor show in Munich, the CLA-Class model is scheduled to go into production as a real electric car in late 2024.
The MMA is designed as an all-new “electric” car model for the automaker’s entry-level CLA Class vehicles. At 185 inches long, the concept is almost exactly the same size as the company’s current CLA sedan. The car also features a number of concept car details (odd wheels, LED lighting, etc.), although it is not currently in final form.
The CLA Class has less raw power than other Mercedes-Benz electric cars (no performance figures were shared), focusing instead on efficiency and charging speeds.
More details about the Concept CLA Class to be shared in the future
The battery size of the Concept CLA Class is also unknown, but it is estimated to be under 100 kWh. In addition, a battery design with anodes containing silicon oxide to increase energy density also helps the efficiency the car aims for.
The interior features a water-cooled processor on the floor, silver leather seats, a carved roof and a dashboard-sized “Super Display” with several physical controls.
Another feature planned for the electric CLA production model is Level 3 automated driving. This feature will not be available at launch, but the electric car will have all the sensors needed to activate it via over-the-air (OTA) updates.
More details on the car will be revealed in the coming months, including battery size, final range and charging figures and, most importantly, price, but if Mercedes can stick to its promises, it could be a real contender for Tesla’s electric cars.
