Montenegro Discussing Cancellation Of Visa Suspension For Turkish Citizens

Minister Ibrahimović: Montenegro Visa Decision Cancellation Expected Within 10-15 Days; Suspension Caused Congestion
PODGORICA, Montenegro – Montenegro’s decision to suspend visa-free travel for Turkish citizens appears set for a reversal, following optimistic statements from the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović. Minister Ibrahimović stated his belief that the suspension decision will be lifted within 10 to 15 days.

🗓️ THE START OF THE CRISIS AND BACKGROUND
Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić announced the surprising suspension of visa-free travel for Turkish citizens on October 27.
- Link to Incident: This announcement came just one day after a Montenegrin man was stabbed in Podgorica’s Zabjelo district. Two Turks were initially detained in connection with the attack but were later released.
- Political Decision: Although the decision was officially linked to the assault, the subsequent release of the two Turkish citizens made the basis for imposing the visa requirement legally debatable.

🗣️ OPTIMISM AND DIPLOMATIC TRAFFIC
Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović offered reassuring words for Turkish citizens in a statement today.
- Minister’s Belief: Ibrahimović stated that he is in constant communication with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, adding, “I believe that the decision to suspend the visa-free travel regime will be canceled within 10-15 days.” This indicates that diplomatic channels between the two countries are working intensively.
- Public Pressure: The Minister also noted that the suspension of visa-free travel resulted in congestion at Montenegro’s representative offices in Turkey. Therefore, this congestion and public pressure acted as factors accelerating the Montenegro Visa Decision Cancellation process.

🇹🇷 TURKEY’S MONITORING
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously stated that it was keeping developments in Montenegro under “close monitoring.” The new statement strengthens expectations that the long-standing friendly and cooperative relations between the two nations will not be severed due to an unfortunate isolated incident. In conclusion, Turkish citizens eagerly await the reinstatement of the visa-free travel regime in the coming days.
