As of August, natural gas was increased, but the incorrect announcement of the rates confused people. Making a statement on the issue, EMRA stated that the 38 percent increase was related to the unit gas purchase price and announced that the increase was 24.4 percent for residences.

Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) made a statement regarding the increase in natural gas. In the statement made by EMRA, “As it is known, the natural gas tariffs valid as of August 1, 2024 have been announced to the public by BOTAŞ. The increases of 33.1 percent and 38 percent stated in the said statement are the increases reflected in the unit gas purchase price.”

HOW MANY PERCENT INCREASE IN NATURAL GAS?

In the statement, it was stated that the average effect of the 38 percent increase in the gas purchase price on housing prices across Turkey was 24.4 percent, “As a result, when the unit gas purchase price, which is determinant in the final invoice, is calculated including the system usage fee and taxes, housing prices for Turkey in general increased by an average of 24.4 percent. In other words, the final price of 1 cubic meter of natural gas increased from 7.6 TL to 9.4 TL.”

FREE CONSUMER TARIFF IN NATURAL GAS

In the statement, it was noted that the sales price of natural gas used by eligible consumers with an annual consumption of 300 thousand cubic meters or less, excluding electricity generation, increased by an average of 28.7 percent for Turkey in general, and the price of 1 cubic meter of natural gas for these consumers increased from 11.8 TL to 15.2 TL.
