Fingerprinting Obligation for Foreigners Arriving in Turkey
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that they are working on a project that will make fingerprinting of foreigners entering Turkey mandatory. Minister Yerlikaya told Sabah newspaper that with the implementation of the project, the identification of foreigners coming to Turkey will be done in a more secure and precise manner.
Mr. Yerlikaya also stated that work on the chipping of the ID cards of persons with temporary protection status is also on the agenda and emphasized that this application is especially important for Syrians. The Minister stated that chip ID cards will be inimitable and thus security risks will be minimized.
According to data from the Ministry of Interior, there are 4.4 million foreign nationals in Turkey. 3.1 million of these people are Syrians. In addition, 1 million 109 thousand people have residence permits, while 224 thousand people are under international protection.
Among the foreigners with residence permits, there are people belonging to various occupational groups such as students, domestic servants and rehabilitation workers.
