Eagle Eye For KAAN From ASELSAN
With its moves in the defense industry, Turkey has once again defeated the embargo of allied countries. Aselsan made a better camera system than the one Canada did not sell to Turkey. The Aselflir 500 it developed was integrated into the Akıncı TUAV. TOYGUN, which is under development, will be used in the national combat aircraft KAAN and the unmanned combat aircraft Kızılelma and Anka 3.
Canada had canceled the export authorization for the camera systems used in these vehicles in 2020 after it was determined that UAVs and UCAVs produced in Turkey were used in Nagorno-Karabakh during the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
In response, Aselsan, which was established against the embargoes imposed after the Cyprus Peace Operation, focused on camera systems used in UCAVs. In the last three years, Aselsan has produced the Aselflir 300T, Aselflir 400 and Aselflir 500 camera systems used in helicopters and UCAVs. Aselflir 500 is defined as “a high-performance electro-optical reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting system developed for fixed and rotary wing air platforms, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), helicopters and aircrafts.”
The Aselflir 500 camera system was integrated into the Bayraktar Akıncı UCAV last week. During the test flight at the Akıncı Flight Training and Test Center, Akıncı TUAV flew for the first time with the Aselflir 500 Electro-Optical Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Targeting System, which was indigenously developed and successfully integrated by Aselsan. Using the system, Akıncı destroyed the Albatros IDA, which was cruising over the sea. Aselsan is also working on the Aselflir 600 system, a higher version of the Aselflir 500, which is an “electro-optical reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting system with precision stabilization” planned to be used on various platforms, especially UAV/SUAV/TUAV platforms and heavy class attack helicopters. The Aselflir 600 system is planned to be integrated into UCAVs this year.
Aselsan is also working on the TOYGUN system, which has a higher technology. TOYGUN, which will provide KAAN with “Eagle’s eye” capability, is also planned to be used on Kızılelma and Anka 3.
