A baby boy born in Bursa’s İnegöl district stunned both his family and medical staff with his extraordinary weight and height, becoming one of the largest newborns in Turkey.
A baby named Ali Atilla, born to lawyer Murat Tunç Bircan (32) and private healthcare center manager Ece Bircan (28), amazed everyone with his size. Delivered at 37 weeks via cesarean section, the newborn weighed 6.15 kilograms (13.5 pounds) and measured 59 centimeters (23 inches) long.
The delivery took place at a private hospital in İnegöl, performed by Obstetrician Dr. İbrahim Yaşa. Due to the baby’s exceptional size, Dr. Yaşa and his team took extra precautions throughout the birth process.
While the average newborn in Turkey weighs between 3 and 3.5 kilograms, baby Ali Atilla’s weight was nearly double that figure. Postnatal examinations confirmed that the baby was in good health, despite his remarkable size.
“He Could Enter the Medical Literature”
Dr. İbrahim Yaşa shared details about the case:
“I personally followed the Bircan family’s pregnancy. It was a challenging process because the baby was gaining weight very quickly. We delivered a baby boy weighing 6 kilos and 150 grams — the largest recorded in Turkey in the 2024–2025 period. Last year, a 6-kilo baby born in Spain made headlines in Europe. A few months ago, a 5.25-kilo baby born in eastern Turkey also drew attention.
Our baby was born at 37 weeks, which makes it even more exceptional. He’s definitely a candidate for medical literature. We had hospitalized the mother for observation, but when her pain increased, we decided to perform a cesarean section about three weeks before the due date.”
Family Overjoyed with the Birth
Father Murat Bircan expressed his gratitude and joy, saying:
“We’re very happy and thankful to everyone — especially Dr. İbrahim Yaşa and our pediatrician, Dr. Kahraman. Everything went well, thank God.”
Mother Ece Bircan added:
“We actually expected a big baby because it was clear from the ultrasounds every month that he was ahead in growth. Dr. İbrahim had warned us, but we were still surprised when he came out at 6 kilos and 150 grams, not just 5 as we expected. We’re just thankful he’s healthy — that’s what matters most.”
A Record-Breaking Newborn
With a weight surpassing most newborn records in Turkey, baby Ali Atilla may soon find a place in national medical references. His remarkable birth highlights not only the expertise of the medical team but also the importance of careful monitoring in high-weight pregnancies.
