Attack on US Embassy Staff in Nigeria: 4 Dead
The US diplomatic convoy was attacked by armed men in Anambra state in the southeast of Nigeria. While 4 people lost their lives and 3 people were kidnapped, it was announced that there were no US citizens in the convoy.
According to national media reports, US embassy staff in Anambra state for humanitarian aid activities were attacked by gunmen in Ogbaru district.
According to preliminary findings, 4 people lost their lives and many others were wounded in the attack.
Anambra State Police Spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the attack and said security forces had been dispatched to the area.
On the other hand, the US embassy in Abuja said in a statement that its personnel were cooperating with Nigerian security officials to get to the bottom of the incident.
Such attacks are occasionally carried out by the terrorist organization Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in southern Nigeria.
Millions of people lost their lives in the civil war that broke out in 1967 after the Biafra people rose up in southern Nigeria demanding the establishment of the independent state of Biafra.
The Republic of Biafra, which was established in 1967 in the southeast of the country, came back under Nigeria’s sovereignty at the end of the civil war.
