ASELSAN manufactures Turkey’s first over MW wind turbines
ASELSAN is not only in the defense industry, but also in the field of renewable energy. According to the latest information, ASELSAN will exhibit its wind turbine at IDEF 2023.
It has been known that ASELSAN has been working on renewable energy and domestic wind turbines for a while. According to the latest information, ASELSAN is preparing the wind turbines with the highest localization rate in Turkey. It is stated that the developed wind turbines will also be Turkey’s first over MW wind turbines.
ASELSAN’s wind turbines have come to an end
Within the scope of the 16th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2023) to be held in Istanbul on July 25-28, ASELSAN will exhibit its products in the fields of communication, air defense, avionics, electro-optics, electronic warfare, radar and unmanned systems. In addition to all these, the company will also introduce its technologies in the civilian field, especially in energy, transportation and health. In this context, it is stated that the company will showcase domestic wind turbines.
The domestic turbine, whose main components are produced by local ecosystem stakeholders, will have a generator, power converter, turbine control system and SCADA system signed by ASELSAN. The power capacity of the wind turbine will be 4.3 megawatts. These turbines will be installed at the Alaçatı Wind Power Plant (WPP) site within the scope of the agreement signed with Elektrik Üretim AŞ last year. These turbines, named ASELSAN ART4.X, will consist of 2 turbines with a tower height of 100 meters and a rotor diameter of 136 meters.
Within the scope of the project, many wind turbine components that have not been domestically produced in Turkey before have started to be produced locally with ASELSAN and the established supply chain. While the prototype production of the generator and power converter developed by ASELSAN is completed, the tests will be carried out in the power electronics test laboratory, which was also started to be installed by the company. The test laboratory, which is under construction, will be the first test laboratory of this strength in Turkey and will also be able to perform engine and driver tests used in military platforms. The installation of ASELSAN’s wind turbines is planned to be completed by the second half of 2024.
