The brain surgery operation performed by imaging with ‘metaverse’ technology, which is applied in a few centers worldwide, started to be applied at Ankara University Ibni Sina Hospital about a year ago.
Thanks to mixed augmented reality technology, the location of the tumor in the brain tissue of patients can be pinpointed.
The patient’s preoperative MRI and tomography data and the anatomical structure, tissues and vascular structure of the brain are modeled in 3D by artificial intelligence.
Can Be Examined In 3d
Thanks to the technology that reduces surgery times, doctors can examine areas of the brain that cannot be seen with the naked eye in 3D with virtual reality glasses.
Under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Şükrü Çağlar, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, a team including faculty members Assoc. Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onur Özgüral, Assistant Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Zaimoğlu and Assistant Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eyüp Bayatlı performed the 6th surgical intervention using this technology.
A tumor was removed from the brain of a 50-year-old woman. Ankara University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar also watched the surgical intervention.
“The Most Advanced Technologies In The World Are Used”
Prof. Dr. Ünüvar stated that the operating room of the Department of Neurosurgery has been undergoing a renovation process for about 2 years and used the following statements:
Our operating room has really gained extraordinary facilities. The most advanced technologies in the world are used in the surgeries here by our professors who are competent in their fields. Virtual reality is an important achievement that has recently entered our lives, especially when information technologies and science come together. It is also used in many fields in medicine. We know and believe that we have one of the best neurosurgery clinics in Turkey. When both the new technological possibilities of the operating room and current technological developments meet with highly qualified academicians, it brings along an extremely important gain in terms of health and science.
Stating that innovations in medicine are for a safe and comfortable life, Prof. Dr. Şükrü Çağlar said that the search for better treatment for patients always continues and that mixed virtual reality technology is very useful in treatment and medical education.
