The incident was reported as a pump-and-dump crypto scam affecting 50 Cent’s millions of social media followers. Initially, the rapper posted on Instagram that “the person who did this made $300,000,000 in 30 minutes”, but this post was later corrected to $3,000,000.
Scammers used 50 Cent’s X account and the website Thisis50 to promote the GUNIT token. “Twitter and Thisis50.com were hacked, I have nothing to do with this crypto,” 50 Cent wrote in an Instagram post. He added that Twitter quickly intervened and restored his account.
50 Cent’s X account and Thisis50.com are still unavailable. This incident once again demonstrates the need to be wary of celebrity cryptocurrency promotions. Users should be more vigilant against such scams on social media platforms and seek information from reliable sources.
