3,500-year-old mummy of ‘screaming woman’ surprises scientists
The 3,500-year-old ‘Screaming Woman’ mummy has astonished scientists. Found in 1935, the mummy appears to have been frozen in death as she screamed in agony. Research showed that she was 48 years old, 1.54 meters tall and had mild spinal arthritis. Contrary to the tradition of the time, her internal organs were not removed, raising new questions about her condition. The cause of her death remains a mystery.
An Egyptian mummy that lived 3,500 years ago has caught the attention of researchers. Dubbed the “Screaming Woman”, the mummy appears to have been frozen in death as she screamed in agony.Discovered in 1935, the mummy belonged to a woman wearing a black wig and precious rings. Scientists examined the mummy using state-of-the-art technology.
The research showed that the woman was around 48 years old, 1.54 meters tall and suffered from mild spinal arthritis. Expensive materials were used in the mummification process, suggesting the woman may have been someone important.Dr. Sahar Saleem said the woman’s facial expression could be a “cadaveric spasm”. This indicates a violent and painful death.
Interestingly, contrary to the mummification tradition of the time, the woman’s internal organs were not removed. This raises new questions about how and why the mummy remained in this state. The study, published in the journal Frontiers in Medicine, offers new insights into life and death in ancient Egypt. But the cause of death of the “Screaming Woman” remains a mystery.
