This year’s edition of the annual World Happiness Report has been published… While Finland is once again the happiest country in the world, Turkey’s place in the ranking will be talked about a lot.

Using a 0 to 10 scoring system, the experts used economic and social data to calculate the 3-year average happiness of people living in countries. Finland scored 7.74 out of 10 points, while Afghanistan scored 1.72.

Turkey, which ranked 106th last year, moved up a few places this year. In the report, Turkey ranked 98th with 4.975 points. In the report, Turkey is ranked behind countries such as Congo, Iraq, Nepal and Laos. A few places below Turkey are Palestine and Ukraine, which live in the shadow of war and chaos.

While Lithuania is the country where people under 30 are the happiest, Turkish youth ranked 101st among 143 countries. Palestinians ranked just below the Turkish youth, while the youth of Iran, which has been under severe social and political pressure in recent years, and countries such as Ivory Coast and Morocco were ranked ahead of Turkey.

The happiness rates of people aged 60 and over were also scrutinized… In the list where countries such as Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Iceland ranked high, Turkey’s citizens aged 60 and over ranked 92nd. The elderly of countries such as Congo, Mozambique and Iraq left Turkish citizens behind. The age breakdown of the respondents from Turkey was also analyzed… In the survey, the happiest people in Turkey were those aged 60 and over, while the unhappiest people were young people.
