TCG Anadolu, the world’s first armed unmanned aerial vehicle (UCAV) ship and Turkey’s largest military ship, is entering the service of the navy.
The TCG Anadolu Multi-Purpose Amphibious Assault Ship Project was launched in 2015 in line with the needs of the Turkish Naval Forces Command.
The ship, which was launched in May 2019, started sea acceptance tests in June 2022. The ship will be handed over to the Turkish Naval Forces Command today by the Presidency of Defense Industries Presidency with a ceremony to be attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
TCG Anadolu was built under the main contractorship of Sedef Shipyard in Tuzla, Istanbul. In addition to 131 subcontractors, universities and research centers took part in the project, which has a local content rate of approximately 70 percent.

It Will Be A Base For National Ucavs
TCG Anadolu will be the world’s “first UCAV ship” with UCAVs that will land and take off on it. For this purpose, Baykar is developing the Bayraktar TB3 UCAV with folding wings. In addition, various studies are underway for the landing and take-off of Bayraktar KIZILELMA, a combat unmanned aircraft system also developed by Baykar, and HÜRJET Light Attack Aircraft developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries.
TCG Anadolu is capable of deploying a force of at least one battalion in the Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Sea to the crisis zone with its own logistical support, without the need for main base support.
The weapon systems, combat management system, electronic warfare systems, infrared search and tracking system, electro-optical search system, laser warning system, torpedo defense system, radars, communication systems, navigation systems, information distribution systems on the ship were developed with domestic and national capabilities.
The ship can also be used for natural disaster relief missions when necessary. Thanks to its full-fledged hospital and operating theater facilities, it will be able to provide medical support in natural disaster relief, humanitarian aid and refugee evacuation operations.
It Will Be Able To Carry 94 Vehicles With It
TCG Anadolu has a length of 231 meters and a width of 32 meters. With a maximum full load displacement of 27,436 tons, the ship can operate at a maximum speed of 20.5 knots and an economic speed of 16 knots.
The TCG Anadolu, which has a cruising speed of at least 9 thousand nautical miles at full load with its economic speed, can accommodate 4 mechanized landing ships, each carrying 1 tank, in the pool that can take water.
The ship can carry a total of 94 vehicles on its vehicle decks, including 13 tanks, 27 armoured amphibious assault vehicles (AAVs), 6 armoured personnel carriers, 33 miscellaneous vehicles and 15 trailers.
The ship’s flight deck will be able to accommodate 10 helicopters or 11 UCAVs, while the hangar will be able to carry 19 helicopters or 30 UCAVs. The ship will host 1223 personnel. The ship also has full-fledged hospital facilities and two operating rooms.
