Where are the Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Istanbul?

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Istanbul
Istanbul makes electric car owners smile with its many charging stations!

Electric cars are known as the shining star of the automotive industry due to their environmental friendliness and their advantages in terms of sustainability of resources. The ever-increasing EV (Electric Vehicles) models and the new features these models gain increase the interest of drivers towards electric cars at the same rate. But of course, there may be some hesitations against this relatively new technology. Chief among these are concerns about charging.

Charging System in Electric Vehicles

While the internal combustion engine provides the movement in vehicles with fuel tanks, in electric cars this task is undertaken by the battery in the engine. Batteries; It varies according to criteria such as engine power, energy capacity and connection type, and accordingly, the charging methods also differ. Basically, there are three different charging methods:

  • Battery Replacement (Quick Drop)
  • Wireless Charging
  • Wired Charging (On-Board/Off-Board)

EV charging stations are divided into two groups, AC and DC, according to current strength. So what do AC type station and DC type station mean?

What is AC (Alternating Current) Charge?

The electricity supplied from the networks is transmitted with alternating current (AC) under all conditions. However, for battery charging, this current must be converted to DC (Direct Current) current with a power converter. Stations that do not have this power converter in their hardware are called AC (alternating current) charging stations. And hence the transformation; It takes place not at the station, but inside the vehicle itself.

What is DC (Direct Current) Charge?

Stations with DC (direct current) power already have the power converter in the station hardware. Therefore, AC is converted to DC within the station itself and reaches the battery directly, bypassing the converter in the vehicle.

What Types of Charging Stations Are There in Istanbul?

Charging points for electric cars can be found almost everywhere in Istanbul where urban life is dominant. Among these, stations that provide filling with AC power, as usual, are more common. However, for those who want to charge their vehicle in a short time, DC power stations also serve at certain points. You can reach the locations of charging stations in Istanbul and all other provinces of Turkey in a practical way via the Charging Station Map . For more information, continue reading:

How is Payment Made at EV Charging Stations?

There is no need for an attendant to charge electric cars at any charging point, and the charging process can be carried out by the driver in a very practical way. At this point, it is a matter of curiosity how the payment is made at the stations. The payment process varies according to the policies of the institution that owns the station. But it’s actually pretty simple too!

At some stations, online payment can be made through the application of the charging point operator. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to have the app. Because the stations installed in the public space also have a payment system. Therefore, payment can be made by credit or debit card. It is also possible to find free charging stations in the car parks of various venues!

Charging Fees for Electric Cars

At the charging stations established for electric cars, the pricing is determined by considering multiple criteria. This is primarily based on production, installation and operating costs. In addition, prices vary according to the current strength of the charging station. However, the charging capacity and speed of the electric vehicle are also decisive in this regard. A more affordable price is paid when a high-capacity vehicle is charged with high current; When a low-capacity vehicle is charged with high current, higher prices are encountered.
