Visa Exemption for Bulgarian Citizens

According to the decision published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Bulgarian citizens will be able to enter the country with their identity cards without obtaining a visa during their touristic and transit trips to Turkey.

With a decision published in the Official Gazette today, Bulgarian citizens were allowed to enter Turkey without a passport.

With the decision published with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Bulgarian citizens will be able to enter Turkey with their identity cards, provided that it is limited to 90 days within 180 days for touristic or transit purposes.

According to the data of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 944 thousand 366 Bulgarian citizens visited Turkey in the January-May period. In May alone, 57 thousand 874 tourists came from Bulgaria. In May, Bulgaria ranked fifth among the countries sending the most visitors to Turkey. Visitors from Bulgaria constituted 8.3 percent of the visitors coming to Turkey in the same period.

Citizens of Turkey must have a passport and obtain a Bulgarian visa to enter Bulgaria.

Citizens of 16 countries can enter Turkey with an ID

Turkey allows citizens of 16 European countries to travel with ID. The countries that can enter Turkey with their national identity cards are as follows:

Germany, Belgium, France, Georgia, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, TRNC, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Ukraine, Greece, Poland

In addition, Turkey has granted visa exemption to 81 countries in total (including the countries that can enter Turkey with an identity card).

Countries where Turkish citizens can go with an identity card

There are 6 countries where Turkish citizens can go with their identity cards. These countries are the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Serbia.

A passport is required to travel to any country other than these countries. Most countries also require a visa. Citizens of Turkey can travel visa-free to Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina in Europe, except for countries where they can only enter with an ID.

Turkey also ranks 52nd in the list of the world’s most powerful passports.
