Shou Zi Chew, CEO of TikTok, said that the Chinese short video app, which has more than 150 million American users, will never, ever share user data with the Chinese government.
Adding that TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, is not owned or controlled by any government or government agency, the CEO emphasized that they are not agents of any country.
The United States Committee on Foreign Investment (CFIUS), a powerful national security agency, unanimously recommended ByteDance to divest TikTok in 2020.
In late 2020, under pressure from then-President Trump, ByteDance negotiated with Walmart and Oracle to divest TikTok’s US assets, but to no avail.
