Those Who Tried The New iOS Version Before Will Be Paid Now!

It will now be paid to try the iOS 17 developer version, which Apple will release at WWDC this year. Details are here!

Starting with the iOS 16.4 beta, the iPhone will have a new “Beta Updates” menu under General → Software Update in the Settings app. This menu allows members of Apple’s Developer Program to activate iOS developer betas directly on an iPhone without having to install a configuration profile from the Apple Developer website.

The menu only appears if a user is signed in to their iPhone with the Apple ID they used to sign up with Apple’s Developer Program. Apple says this menu will be the only way to enable developer betas, as profiles will stop working in future iOS versions.

New iOS Release Pre-Trial Cost: $99

The highlight of this change is that Apple will block iPhone users who are not enrolled in the Developer Program from installing the free iOS 17 developer beta for $99 per year when it launches at WWDC in June. Until now, anyone could install iOS developer betas for free by downloading profiles from websites like BetaProfiles.dev.

Apple had already blocked websites that shared developer beta profiles last year. While BetaProfiles.com was shut down in August to avoid a “legal battle with Apple”, Apple lawyers had sent DMCA takedown notices to Twitter for more than a dozen tweets containing links to IPSW.dev. BetaProfiles.dev is still live and appears to be a clone of BetaProfiles.com, though it’s unclear whether the website has the same ownership.

iPhone users who don’t want to pay $99 per year for Apple’s Developer Program will likely have to wait for the public beta of iOS 17, which will be released in July. Users can sign up for Apple’s public Beta Software Program for free.
