The European Political Community Meets in Prague

The European Political Community will hold its first summit in Prague, the capital of Czech Republic.

In addition to the leaders of 27 European Union member countries, the heads of state and government of 17 countries were also invited to the summit. Among those countries is Turkey.

Simultaneous roundtable meetings will be held after the opening session at the summit in Prague Castle. In sessions such as peace and security, energy, climate and economy, the leaders will evaluate the future of Europe.

In the meeting, the Turkey-Armenia normalization process as well as the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan will be on the agenda.

According to the information given by the European Union (EU) officials who organized the meeting, the leaders of 43 out of 44 EU and non-EU European countries invited to the first meeting of AST confirmed their participation. Only Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated that he could not attend due to parliamentary work.

PRECAUTIONS TAKED

Stating that at the beginning of 2020, the EU could not establish sufficient dialogue and cooperation with its partners during the peak period of the epidemic, EU officials state that such a forum will be important in order to prevent similar situations in the next tests.

Interest in the first AST meeting held at Prague Castle is high. Approximately 1200 journalists were accredited to follow the meeting. Extensive security measures were taken in Prague, as more than 40 leaders of countries were to come.
