The American Aircraft Carrier is in Crete! Did America Send F-18’s to Greece?
In an environment where tensions continued on the Ankara-Athens line, the US aircraft carrier “George H. W. Bush” docked on the island of Crete.
The ship docked at the K-14 quay of the American naval base in the island’s Suda bay. “George H. W. Bush”, conducting joint military exercises with Spain in the Adriatic Sea, will remain in Crete until October 10 to rest the crew. Although no official statement has been made yet, the Greek media claimed that the F-18 fighter jets on the American aircraft carrier will conduct joint training flights with the Greek F-16 warplanes.
Greek media also commented that the arrival of the aircraft carrier to Crete at a time when Turkish-Greek relations were tense had a “symbolic meaning”. “George H. W. Bush” last arrived at the American naval base in Suda in 2017. One of the world’s largest aircraft carriers, the Nimitz class “George H. W. Bush” joined the navy in 2009. The ship, which cost approximately 6.5 billion dollars, is 330 meters long and 77 meters wide. The ship can carry 85 fighter jets, as well as a crew of 6,000.
