Due to the long-lasting drought in East Africa, the water in the Shabel River, which flows from Ethiopia to Somalia, has dried up. Mohammed Jelani Hussein, who is engaged in agriculture in the Afgooye region where the river passes, drew attention to the drought in the region. Stating that the Şabel River has dried up, he said, “Our agricultural lands were irrigated with river water, but now we are in a difficult situation because there is no water.” Stating that the river has completely dried up, Hüseyin stated that the drought has never lasted this long. Hüseyin noted that they used the wells to meet their water needs. The Şabel River flows through the mountainous regions of Ethiopia and passes through the Hiran, Lower Şabel and Orta Şabel regions of Somalia. The people in the regions they pass through are engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry.
