Saladin Ayyubi Mosque Opens For Worship Today
The Selahaddin Ayyubi Mosque and Complex, which was built in Diyarbakır in accordance with the history and architectural style of the region, will be opened for worship.
The Selahaddin Eyyubi Mosque and Complex, whose foundations were laid 6 years ago in Diyarbakır, will be opened today with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The mosque, built by Diyarbakır businessman İhsan Arslan in Yenişehir district, offers worship opportunities for 25 thousand people at the same time when the courtyard is included. The mosque, which has a 43,500 square meter indoor area, includes a conference hall for 700 people, a 1500 square meter foyer and exhibition hall, and a parking lot for 500 cars.
The complex includes a 2,400 square meter cafeteria, a library and a youth center, as well as office and training areas with a surface area of 4,000 square meters. The Selahaddin Eyyubi Mosque, which was completed in 6 years, is expected to meet an important need of Diyarbakır, whose population exceeds 1 million 800 thousand.
Mesopotamian, Seljuk And Ottoman Motifs Were Used
Although the initial project was by Uğur Kınık, other architects have since contributed to the mosque, which is predominantly made of basalt, white and yellow stones from the region, with Mesopotamian, Seljuk and Ottoman motifs.
The four minarets of the mosque are square and 56 domes, including the main dome, were built in octagonal form. The names of Prophet Adam, Prophet Abraham, Prophet Moses and Prophet Jesus were written on the 4 doors on the sides of the mosque. The name of Prophet Muhammad was placed on the main gate.
The Selahaddin Ayyubi Mosque will be opened for worship today with a ceremony to be attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
