Rapper Saman Yasin Sentenced for Supporting Mahsa Amini Protests

27-year-old rap singer Saman Yasin, who was detained in Iran for supporting the protests against Mahsa Amini, who was killed after being detained on the grounds that she did not comply with the headscarf rules, was sentenced to death. The singer, who learned the sentence given at the trial, burst into tears.

The protests of Mahsa Amini, who died on September 16 in the hospital where she was taken into a coma after being detained in Iran on September 13 for not wearing a hijab in accordance with the rules, continue. 27-year-old rapper of Kurdish origin, Saman Yasin, supported the nationwide protests by writing a song criticizing the Iranian regime.

Sentenced to death

Supporting the protests, Saman Yasin was detained after singing a song on 2 October. He was sentenced to death by the court on 29 October. The singer, who read the death sentence to the judge’s face, burst into tears, holding her head in her hands. An anonymous source said the singer’s family and lawyer were not present at the hearing. No statement was made about when Saman’s sentence would be executed. Some anti-regime pages also claimed that the family and the lawyer were threatened by the regime to keep them from discussing the issue.
