Rap Singer Coolio, Known for “Gangsta’s Paradise”, Dies

Legendary rap singer Coolio, who left his mark on a period with the song “Gangsta’s Paradise”, died at the age of 59.

Longtime manager Jarez Posey revealed that the singer was found unresponsive in the bathroom of her home in Los Angeles. The cause of death of the singer is not yet known. However, her manager revealed that paramedics thought the singer died of a heart attack.

American singer Coolio started his music career in the 1980s. He was remembered with the song “Gangsta’s Paradise”, which he released in 1995 and became a hit all over the world.

Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr, won a Grammy for the song Gangsta’s Paradise, which was also used as the soundtrack for the movie “Dangerous Minds” starring Michelle Pfeiffer. The song has passed one billion streams on the music platform Spotify.

In his nearly 40-year career, Coolio has produced eight studio albums and won an American Music Award and three MTV Video Music Awards.

Coolio, who has other hit songs such as Fantastic Voyage, Rollin’ With My Homies, 1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New) and Too Hot, continued his music life actively until his death. A few days ago, he gave a concert in Texas as part of his tour with the stars of the 90s such as Vanilla Ice and Young MC.

“I’m freaking out I just heard my good friend Coolio passed away.” Vanilla Ice said on Twitter following Coolio’s death.

Snoop Dogg also shared photos taken for a music video in 2006, referring to the singer’s award-winning song, “Mafia heaven. Rest in peace” he wrote.

Singer and actor Ice Cube said, “This is very sad news. I witnessed firsthand how this man was heading towards the top of the industry,” he wrote.

MC Hammer described Coolio as “one of the nicest people I’ve ever known”.
