New Zealand To Receive News Money from Google and Facebook
The New Zealand government has said it will pass legislation that would require major online digital companies such as Alphabet Inc’s Google and Meta (Facebook) to pay New Zealand media companies for their local news content.
New Zealand Broadcasting Minister Willie Jackson said he hopes the legislation will be modeled on similar laws in Australia and Canada and will serve as an incentive for digital platforms to reach agreement with local news outlets.
