A new statement that frightened the whole world came from China, the country where the coronavirus pandemic emerged. It is wondered if the symptoms of the Langya virus, which emerged in China, the birthplace of Covid-19, and whether it is lethal. So what is the virus, is it lethal? WHAT IS LANGYA VIRUS?
Langya virus, known as Langya henipavirus (LayV), was detected in China in 2018. However, the virus in question has not been officially recognized. The most recent study on it revealed that the virus was first detected in humans in 2019, and the latest cases were this year.
In addition, in animal test studies, LayV viral RNA was found in a quarter of 262 mice. According to the results, experts believe that the virus was transmitted from shrews and other animals.

It is stated that the most common symptom experienced by Langya patients is fever, and everyone who is infected has a fever. This symptom was followed by fatigue (54 percent), cough (50 percent), loss of appetite (50 percent), muscle aches (46 percent), and nausea (38 percent). Also, about 35 percent of patients experienced liver problems, while 8 percent experienced a decline in kidney function.
DOES LANGYA VIRUS KILL?
There are currently no deaths among patients infected with the virus. Experts state that the virus is not deadly and should not be worried. However, Langya is known to be in the same family as the Nipah virus, a deadly pathogen often found in bats.
Langya can also be transmitted from person to person through droplets. However, since it is not clear how the virus is transmitted from person to person, research is still ongoing.
The virus has not been seen in Turkey yet.
