WhatsApp and Meta 2 million 665 thousand lira fine from the Personal Data Protection Board!

The Personal Data Protection Authority has imposed a fine on Meta and WhatsApp. It has been shared that WhatsApp and its parent company Meta have not fulfilled their obligations. The Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK), which recently imposed a heavy fine on TikTok for exposing children’s personal information and collecting data without permission, has now imposed a fine on WhatsApp and Meta. According to information reported by AA, the Authority has completed its investigation and determined that Meta and WhatsApp were obliged to register with the “Data Controllers’ Registry”, but failed to do so on time. A total fine of 5 million 330 thousand TL was imposed: Therefore, the Authority decided to impose a 2 million 665 thousand TL fine on both WhatsApp and Meta. In addition, Meta and WhatsApp were instructed to comply with the registration obligation within 30 days.
