Minister Announced on Live Broadcast: 1.5 Million New Houses Will Be Built in Istanbul

Minister of Environment and Urbanization Murat Kurum stated that 1.5 million risky residences will be renovated in Istanbul, “500 thousand for the reserve areas on the Anatolian side, 500 thousand for the reserve areas on the European side, 500 thousand for the campus.” “

Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum made important statements about Istanbul in the live broadcast of CNN Türk. Stating that there are 1.5 million risky residences in the mega city, the Authority stated that new residences will be built without bringing additional population to Istanbul.

Regarding the issue, the Minister said:

“Our country is earthquake country. Our Istanbul is one of these cities. In 1994, our President initiated the concept of social housing. It spread all over Turkey. We built and delivered 1 million 180 thousand social housing. We transformed 3.3 million housing. With these, 695 houses in 39 districts in Istanbul.” The transformation potential and understanding of 1,000 residences have been completed, while 93 thousand residences continue.

We have secured the loss of life and property of our citizens by building 3.3 million houses that are unique in the world. We have secured 65 percent of the structures. Our findings show that 1.5 million homes are at risk from both floors and structures. This means 193,649 buildings. We will make a reserve of 500 thousand on the Anatolian side, 500 thousand on the European side, and 500 thousand without bringing an additional population to the place where it is located. We have identified the reserve area. Details will be announced by our President in the coming days.
