Microsoft’s New Project: Mobile App Store to Rival Apple and Google

Unable to compete with iOS and Android with its mobile operating system, Microsoft is now planning to take a piece of the pie by establishing an app store.

Having failed to keep the smartphone operating system alive, Microsoft can re-enter the mobile race by establishing an app store that rivals iOS and Android. It seems that the company intends to create an alternative to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Having failed to compete with iOS and Android with Windows Phone/Windows Mobile, the company still sees a future for itself in this market. Xbox division boss Phil Spencer gave an interview to The Times about Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

Spencer Mentioned Between the Lines

A small sentence from Spencer’s mouth during the interview was enough to decipher Microsoft’s future plans for mobile platforms. The boss of Xbox said that Microsoft wants to create a rival service, starting with games.

In other words, the app store will initially be aimed at gamers on iPhone and Android, but these are all as yet undecided details. On the face of it, it wouldn’t be a surprise for the company to enter the mobile gaming race. Because, in addition to Activision Blizzard, which Microsoft is trying to complete its acquisition, it already has many important game development studios.
