Gazipaşa is the most eastern district of Antalya. Gazipaşa’s unknown or predicted history goes deep within the historical perspective. This historical adventure begins in the 2000s BC. The Luwians, a branch of the Hittites, also lived in what the Hittites called the Kizzuvatna (Çukurova region) and Arzava (Antalya region) countries. It is highly probable that the district started its historical journey with the Luwians – Hittites, as Gazipaşa remained within this region. As a matter of fact, the lion remains in the ruins around Karatepe confirm this information. It is located 180 km east of Antalya, 10 km long and 7 km wide on the Gazipaşa Plain on the Mediterranean coast. It is neighbors with Mersin province Anamur District in the east, Karaman province Ermenek district in the northeast, Sarıveliler district in the north and Alanya district in the west. It is surrounded by Taurus Mountains extending from west to east, approximately 35 km inland, parallel to the Mediterranean coast that constitutes the southern borders. Its area is 931 km and the district center is located 3 km inland from the coast, but new settlements have extended to the coast.
