Istanbul’s New Metro Opens This Sunday!

Minister Karaismailoglu said that they will put the Pendik-Sabiha Gokcen Airport metro into the service of Istanbulites on Sunday, October 2, with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. “Now, transportation to Sabiha Gokcen Airport will be fast and easy. We are making history once again with our project,” he said.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu stated that there are 7 metro lines undertaken by the Ministry throughout Istanbul, and that the works on these lines continue on a 24/7 basis.

Stating that they will put the Pendik-Sabiha Gokcen Airport metro line into the service of Istanbulites on Sunday, October 2, with the participation of President Erdogan, Karaismailoglu emphasized that in this context, the neighborhoods with intense activity in Pendik will be brought together with the metro.

Karaismailoglu noted that with this line, Istanbul traffic will be relieved and they will bring the Seyhli, Yayalar, Fevzi Cakmak and Kurtkoy neighborhoods together with the metro.

“We will be able to serve 1 million 200 thousand passengers a day”

Underlining that they will connect the said line with the Kadikoy-Kartal metro line, Karaismailoglu shared the information that the line has the capacity to serve 1 million 200 thousand passengers per day and has a speed of 80 kilometers.

Karaismailoglu stated that the line starting from Pendik Tavsantepe and reaching Sabiha Gokcen International Airport is 7.4 kilometers long and has 4 stations, and used the following statements:

“Now, transportation to Sabiha Gokcen Airport will be fast and easy. We are making another mark in history with our project. Sabiha Gokcen Airport, one of the intercity and international air transportation terminals of Istanbul, will be provided with a direct rail system by providing the continuation of the Kadikoy-Kartal-Kaynarca Metro Line. It will be possible to reach safely, quickly and economically.

With the commissioning of the line, the travel time between Tavsantepe and Sabiha Gokcen Airport is 10 minutes, between Istanbul Anatolian Courthouse and Sabiha Gokcen Airport 12 minutes, between Kadikoy-Fevzi Cakmak (Hospital) 42 minutes, between Kurtkoy Industry-Camlica 45 minutes, Sabiha Gokcen Airport-Camlica It will be 48 minutes between Kadikoy and Sabiha Gokcen Airport, 50 minutes between Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gokcen Airport, and 100 minutes between Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gokcen Airport.

Karaismailoğlu stated that they also provided the rail system connection to Sabiha Gokcen Airport, one of the most important airports in the world, and emphasized that they would thus increase comfort and security.

Karaismailoglu pointed out that they will inaugurate important metro lines in Istanbul within the year, and said, “We will open the Kağıthane-Istanbul Airport metro. It will pass through Basaksehir Cam and Sakura City Hospital, reach Kayasehir, and will also connect the Istanbul Airport connection in Bagcilar Gungoren, by finishing our metro line. We will put it at the disposal of the people of Istanbul. We will complete the construction of our other 4 metro lines and put them into service.” made its assessment.
